Caffeine Content Comparison: The Sourced Data (2026)

Most "which coffee has more caffeine" comparisons are useless for one simple reason: every brand reports caffeine per a different serving size. A 12oz claim, a 16oz claim, and an 8oz claim aren't comparable numbers — they're marketing choices. This page exists to fix that. Every figure below is normalized to an 8oz (236.6mL) serving so the numbers can actually be compared, with the original source and testing method shown for each.

We built this because nobody else had: every "strongest coffee" roundup we found just repeats brand marketing copy at face value. This page does the opposite — converts every figure to the same serving size, links the original source, and rates how trustworthy each number actually is. Use it, cite it, link to it.

Caffeine Content, Normalized to 8oz (236.6mL)

Product mg per 8oz equivalent Original claim Source / method Confidence
Standard drip coffee (Arabica) ~95mg 95mg per 8oz USDA FoodData Central High — standardized reference data
Red Bull ~76mg 80mg per 8.4oz (250mL) can Manufacturer nutrition label High — regulated label disclosure
Monster Energy (Original) ~80mg 160mg per 16oz (473mL) can Manufacturer nutrition label High — regulated label disclosure
Bang Energy ~150mg 300mg per 16oz can Manufacturer nutrition label High — regulated label disclosure
Morning, Bird! Hummingbird! Blend ~2× a standard cup (est. ~190–200mg) Robusta-boosted blend; no per-cup mg published Estimated from the blend's Robusta content (Robusta ≈ 2× the caffeine of Arabica) — not lab-tested Low–moderate — an honest estimate from species, not a lab-measured figure
Death Wish Coffee ~165–485mg (range) No official figure published by brand EMSL Food Chemistry Lab (2015): 200–210mg/100mL (≈710–745mg/12oz). More recent SDS Agri Food Laboratory testing found substantially lower results, with some independent tests around 165mg/cup. Low-moderate — results from different independent tests disagree significantly; brand does not publish its own number
Biohazard Coffee ~619mg 928mg per 12oz cup Manufacturer claim (on packaging/website) Low — self-reported by the brand; no publicly disclosed independent lab report backing the figure
Black Insomnia Coffee ~737mg 1,105mg per 12oz cup (one source reports 702mg/12oz) Liquid chromatography testing at a Swiss laboratory, samples submitted by the manufacturer Moderate — independent lab method, but manufacturer-initiated and sources disagree with each other

Methodology

Caffeine content is volume-dependent — more liquid, more caffeine, regardless of strength — so comparing raw "mg per serving" claims across products with different serving sizes is misleading by design. We converted every figure to its 8oz (236.6mL) equivalent using simple linear scaling from the manufacturer's or lab's stated serving size. This doesn't correct for brew strength, bean ratio, or extraction method — it only removes the serving-size variable so the comparison is apples-to-apples.

Confidence ratings reflect how the underlying number was produced:

  • High — government nutrition database or a regulated, legally-binding nutrition label.
  • Moderate — independent lab testing, but commissioned or submitted by the manufacturer rather than a neutral third party.
  • Low — a number self-reported by the brand with no public, independently-verifiable lab report behind it, or independent tests that materially disagree with each other.

Where Hummingbird! Blend Sits

We estimate Hummingbird! Blend at roughly double a standard cup of coffee — it's a Robusta-boosted blend, and Robusta carries about twice the caffeine of Arabica. We don't have a lab test, so we label that as an estimate rather than a measured number, and we're not chasing the highest figure on this table. We'd rather publish an honest, plainly-labeled estimate than an inflated, unverifiable claim.

⚠️ Caffeine content figures, especially for unregulated specialty claims, can vary by batch, brew method, and testing lab. This page is for comparison purposes, not medical guidance — see our Caffeine Content & Responsible Use page for consumption guidance.
